Brussels: Ramadan traffic

In order to avoid the traditional traffic problems during Ramadan (August 11-September 10), the municipality of Sint-Jans-Molenbeek came up with a traffic plan. Drivers are asked to avoid the town center in the evenings.

During Ramadan many Muslims from Molenbeek and other municipalities come to do their shopping in the historic center of Molenbeek, where the traditional halal butchers and other specialized stores are located.

The municipality noticed that shopping is usually done towards the end of fasting, around sunset.

Drivers are advised to avoid the center at the end of the day. The merchants were asked to get their deliveries before 12:00.

The police will work together with other municipal departments to ensure that traffic and shopping proceed smoothly.
